The admissions process can be tough to navigate. This course teaches parents:

Saving And Paying For College

This workshop educates families about the many savings options available—including college-specific plans—and how to tackle the challenge of paying. Families will understand:

  • Savings options available—college specific savings plans (including 529 or pre-paid tuition plans)
  • The different methods of paying—savings accounts, income, or savings plans
  • When and how to apply for loans, scholarships, and work-study
  • How eligibility is determined and avoiding tricky caveats hidden in the fine print
  • How to effectively appeal the decision and/or negotiate for more funds

Education Loan Repayment Strategies

The total education-related loan balance in the U.S. now exceeds one trillion dollars, surpassing total outstanding credit card debt. This workshop will explore the strategies that recent graduates and their parents can use to manage their share of this national burden and examine ways that graduates can deal with debt and parents can help students transition to their debt-repayment responsibilities. Attendees will learn:

  • How to identify repayment responsibilities for each loan
  • Methods for reducing monthly payments
  • Strategies for identifying cash flow that can be used to pay (or even pre-pay) education debt
  • Ways to avoid becoming delinquent and/or defaulting on education debt, even during times of personal economic hardship
